Do I need GA4's default Engaged Sessions metric?

Keep it, but layer on the custom article_view and Engaged Readers audience: they are more meaningful for publishers than GA4's default thresholds.

Can I track ad revenue directly?

Not in the current preview. Ad revenue usually flows from AdSense / header bidders into a separate reporting layer. AtriTap wires audience signals that make your ad stack more effective.
